MY VOTE COUNTS

[ MY VOTE COUNTS ] Because I Vote

It doesn't take much to realize that things sometimes need to change. The question that may be somewhat more challenging to answer is 'how do I make those changes happen?'

I've been talking with my friend Terence about this same topic for a short time now and he offers the following 5 ways that a person can get involved and start seeing changes in their community, state, and anywhere else they interact.

1. Get Registered, then help register others

Registering to vote is easy, visit your local political headquarters or board of elections if you have questions on how to register, transfer or change your information. While you are there, pick up some forms yourself and get people to register also.

Testimonial:

“Since no one come to the job site to register people I decided to go get some forms, I’m just trying to do my part.”

- Sean Lane, Mechanical Installer

2. Work at the polls

You don’t have to be affiliated with any political group to work the polls during local elections. As a poll worker you help the young and the elderly alike to vote and make their voice heard. Call your local board of elections and ask them how you can help in your local community.

3. Know who represents you

Who is your congressman? Who is your state house representation? Take the time to understand who represents you on all levels of government. Visit in North Carolina visit ncleg.net to find out who speaks for you. See how they vote on the issues you believe in, see what bills they have sponsored.

4. Volunteer for a political campaign

Volunteer to work for a candidate that you believe in. Being apart of their campaign activities, and their eventual success is a way to show the depth of your personal beliefs and standards. By telling other people of the candidate’s good works and platform you must first strongly believe in the merits of the individual for yourself.

5. Become a community activist

To make change in your community all it takes is an idea and a little vision. No matter how old you are, you can get people in your neighborhood or subdivision together to talk about issues that are important to everyone. With a group of motivated individuals you can start a petition, lobby local leadership, or even start a community or individual blog.

There are so many more ways to be and produce the change you want to see - just remember that your VOTE DOES COUNT!
